5 DAY CEDARBERG SPLENDOUR

The Cedarberg is an undiscovered gem and off the beaten track. This tour is full of ancient history and culture - certainly not mainstream. Without a doubt a “must see” while in South Africa.

Highlights:

Day 1: Traditional BBQ

Day 1: Saltycrax Backpackers
Arrive at Saltycrax Backpackers in the afternoon where you will be greeted by our friendly staff and your guides for the next 6 days.  You can spend the afternoon as you please in the Jacuzzi or tanning on the beach.
In the evening you will return to the hostel where a traditional south African BBQ will be cooked up in front of you on the wood coals.
You will be spending the night at Saltycrax in 4 star accommodation.

Day 2: Saltycrax to Ceres:
A early start to the morning with breakfast at the hostel before, we head to Butterfly World.  Not only is this home to more than 24 species of exotic butterflies, but also boasts a variety of birds, marmoset monkeys, and several magnificent iguanas.  Butterfly World is the largest free flying park for butterflies in Southern Africa.  .
Next we head out to the charming historical town of Tulbagh, situated in the heart of Witzenberg, in the Winelands of Boland. 32 buildings were all declared National Monuments and constitute the largest concentration of National Monuments in one street in South Africa.
We will take a short tour of the Oude Drosdy Museum and have some wine tasting.  After the Museum we will visit one of the local restaurant for lunch (own expense)
Next it is onto some action and excitement at “Bum Slide Rock”…. Wait and see!!
After such an eventful first day we sleep over in Ceres where you will enjoy your dinner at the lodge surrounded by awe-inspiring mountain views. 

DAY 3 – Ceres to Cederberg Oasis Backpackers in the Cedarberg Conservancy
We will wake up early on this day and after a quick breakfast we head out to the Cedarberg Conservancy.  We have an exciting day ahead in the Cedarberg Conservancy exploring the area.  

We will have a packed lunch in one of the picnic spots in the reserve where you will have a bit of free time to explore the reserve on your own.
After an exciting day we head to Cederberg Oasis Backpackers for a steaming shower, comfortable beds and a cooked meal.  You will also have a chance to learn about all the constellations of stars in the Southern hemisphere.

DAY 4- Cederberg Oasis Backpackers to Gecko Creek Backpackers
Wake up in the beautiful Cederberg conservancy and have breakfast before your busy day of hiking in the reserve.  We head out the Stadsaal Caves in the Matjiesrivier Nature Reserve.  This rugged nature reserve includes the famous Stadsaal rock formations and some excellent examples of San rock art.  This is where you will enjoy your lunch surrounded by views and rock formations that will take your breath away!!
We then head for Gecko Creek Lodge where you will have time to Swim and relax in their refreshing saltwater pool. 
After dinner we will gather around the fire-warmed open-air Boma, lie back and watch the stars - like ‘diamonds on velvet’ with a shooting star every 15 minutes.

DAY 5 - Gecko Creek Private Nature Reserve to !Khwa ttu
You will wake up to the sun creeping over the rugged mountains – a new day has begun. Breakfast is served in the thatch lapa outside.
Those that feel like discovering this fabulous landscape on horseback can enjoy an optional horse-riding trip.  Optional flights over the Cedarberg to take in the majestic scenery from the air are also available. 
Later we head off to Algeria Reserve to hike and explore this remarkable reserve and waterfalls.

We then head to !Khwa ttu a san cultural village, you will have your lunch in a picnic spot along the way.  !Kwa ttu is situated in a nature reserve with antelope and natural animals all around you.  Dinner is served at !Khwa ttu around the fire where you can get a bit of history from the local San people.

DAY 6 - !Khwa ttu to SaltyCrax Backpackers
After breakfast you will be given a fascinating insight into the culture, heritage, knowledge and modern-day life of the San of southern Africa.  A group of our qualified San guides, will lead you through a truly exceptional experience. During a three-hour tour the San will demonstrate their skills, share their ancient knowledge about oral history, tracking animals, identifying plants with you. They will also teach you words in some of their languages and enlighten you about recent achievements in obtaining their rights to land and intellectual property. The San-guided experience provides a unique opportunity for you to listen to accurate accounts of the past and present lives of the San.
We will then have lunch (own expense) at one of the farm stalls on the way to the Ostrich farm for a tour to see this unusual bird. 
he Ostrich is unmistakably the largest bird in the world. Its huge bulk accounts for the inability to fly. Without a doubt, it is one of the strangest-looking and best-known African birds.
We end the tour at SaltyCrax in Table View where you can relax in the hammocks by the Jacuzzi and share your adventure with fellow travelers.  You will also be able to spend the afternoon at your own leisure by the beach or in a shopping centre – what ever you heart desires.
