2 Day Johannesburg Orientation

Overview

This is the perfect tour for those of you who have just arrived in Johannesburg, also known as The City of Gold. During this tour you will stay at a cozy backpackers in the country side and explore the history of Johannesburg on foot. Visit famous sites such as the Nelson Mandela Bridge, the Carlton Tower and Constitution Hill.

Prices

Depending on which type of accommodation you choose the prices for this tour are as follows:

Dorm room: ZAR 2095
You will share a dormitory room which sleeps 4-10 people.

Private Room: ZAR 2415
You will have one of our private rooms all to yourself.

Sharing Private Room: ZAR 2140 p.p.
This option is ideal if you are travelling with your family or a small group of friends and prefer a bit more privacy.

DAY 1:

You will be met at the arrivals Hall by your friendly driver/tour guide who will transport you to the Hostel, Homebase Melville. After you are checked you into your Room and given an introduction on the area and where all the lockers, shops, stores and exciting places to go are, you have the rest of the day for yourself. The Hostel has a pool, bar, free wifi and is close to the JNB version of Long Street. Tonight’s dinner will be a selected meal ranging from either Pizza, Alfredo Pasta, Bolognese or similar. Stay the night in dormitory accommodation. Upgrades available upon request.

DAY 2:

Start the day with a continental breakfast which is self – service from 7h30 – 9h30. Around 10h00 you are collected from the backpackers and head to Soweto (South Western Township, officially the largest in S.A.).

Make a few stops at Soccer City – Aka the Calabash, home of the World Cup Football in S.A, Vilakazi St – Famously known as the only street in the world to have had two Nobel Peace Prize winners resident simultaniously – Madiba & Desmond Tutu., Orlando Towers – Iconic Landmark. Site of a 100m bungee (R800 with pics). Dress appropriately for this if you are up for jumping! At around 12h00 Head to Maboneng Precinct – The focal point of Jozi’s progressive pulse, for lunch and souvenirs. Take in the positive energy and feel inspired! At 14h00 we finish off at Constitution Hill – This symbol of our Democracy is a picturesque, real life story book depicting transformation and unity. We get back to Homebase before the infamous Joburg traffic descends on the area, the late afternoon can be enjoyed in the leafy and colourful, not to mention safe neighbourhood of Melville.

Attractions include 7th Street – loaded with unique and funky cafes, restaurants and bars. Additionally, 27 boxes is a fantastic new arrival. A retail centre constructed entirely out of shipping containers (Don’t miss the Wednesday night market!). Enjoy an awesome traditional South African BBQ – a Braai – where delicious potato, bean salad and rolls go around with some ‘Lekker” braai meat cooked on the fire. The fire starts around 17h30 and food is usually ready around 19h30. Stay your last night in the dormitory.

Fill up on breakfast and then head on to your next adventure
